Benue State Commissioner of Information, Culture and Tourism, Mr Mathew Abo, who was abducted at his residence in Zaki-Biam on Sunday, September 24th 2023, regained his freedom at the early of Thursday, even as government denied payment of the N60 million ramsom.
Family sources had it that the Commissioner was let by abductors and had arrived home amidst jubilations by family members and was in sound health.
Benue State governor, Hycinth Alia in a reaction, noted that no ramsom was paid before the release of the commissioner by the abductors.
Sir Tersoo Kula, his Chief Press Secretary, in a statement, said the release came from the mounted pressure from security agents and prayers from well wishers.
It could be recalled that gunmen came on four motorcycles, ordered everyone in the house, including the commissioner’s wife and children to lie face down and took him away to an unknown destination on one of the motorcycles.
The abduction took place after 8 pm on Sunday, 24th September, 2023 which is ten days ago.
Abo was sworn in as a member of the Benue State Executive Council on August 29th, 2023.
