As part of efforts to bridge the gap between the children of the rich and poor, Sen. Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko (Sarkin Yamman Sokoto) has spent over N819 million for the sponsorship of 600 children of the poor and less privileged to study within and outside the country from 2015 to 2023.
Senator Wamakko who represents Sokoto North Senatorial District at the National Assembly and is Chairman Senate Committee on Local and Foreign Debts Management said the gesture was part of his passionate and philanthropic efforts to see that children of the poor and less privileged in the state are favourably competing with their colleagues of the rich in the educational sector.
At a press conference held at Bola Ahamed Tinubu Hall Gawon Nama Area Sokoto, the Director of administration of the Senatorial District liaison office and Acting Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, Almustspha Abubakar Alkali while reading the text said the Senator also during the period sponsored 116 students to study various courses in US, UK, Cyprus, Malaysia, and Bangladesh.
He described Wamakko as an iconic educationist, political leader, and a beacon of hope for the masses who sponsored many students for postgraduate degrees, Masters, and Ph.D. at Nigerian Defence Academy NDA Kaduna.
The Acting Permanent Secretary further stated at the press conference, that the first batch of 25 students sponsored to Pakistan to study various degree programs in Science, Information Technology, and Engineering have since graduated with another 17 set still in the country.
