Existing Google One subscribers in Nigeria, Egypt and Algeria who pay through Google Play will begin renewing their plans at the higher prices from August 26, according to Google’s official pricing notice.
The same deadline applies to existing annual subscriptions purchased through Apple’s App Store.
The adjustment also affects Pakistan and Turkey, making five markets covered by Google’s latest round of Google One price increases.
New subscribers have already been paying the higher prices since July 27, while existing monthly subscribers who pay through Apple’s App Store began moving to the new rates from August 23.
Google said the size of the increases varies depending on the subscription plan and the currency of each market.
In Nigeria, the price of the 100GB Google One plan has risen from (₦1,900) $1.41 to (₦2,950) $2.19 per month, an increase of about 55%.
The 200GB Standard plan has also risen from (₦2,900) $2.15 to (₦4,400) $3.27 monthly, representing an increase of nearly 52%, according to a notification sent to subscribers.
Apple’s Nigerian App Store currently lists the 100GB monthly Google One subscription at (₦2,950) $2.19 and the 200GB plan at (₦4,400) $3.27.
For someone maintaining the 200GB plan for a full year at the monthly rate, the increase pushes the cost from (₦34,800) $25.84 to (₦52,800) $39.21, an additional (₦18,000) $13.37.
Google One provides additional cloud storage that can be shared across Google Drive, Gmail and Google Photos.
Google gives standard accounts up to 15GB of free storage. Users who require additional capacity can subscribe to Google One’s paid storage plans.
Nigeria, Egypt and Algeria Affected
Google’s July notice confirms that three of the five countries covered by the latest adjustment are in Africa.
However, the percentage increases differ by plan and currency, meaning the increases recorded in Nigeria do not necessarily apply to subscribers in Egypt or Algeria.
Google has also given existing customers different implementation dates depending on how they pay.
Monthly Apple App Store subscribers began renewing at the higher prices from August 23, while Google Play subscribers and customers with annual Apple subscriptions will begin paying the revised rates when they renew on or after August 26.
Subscribers who do not want to renew at the new Google Play price have until August 25 to cancel, Google said.
Cancelling does not immediately remove paid storage. Customers retain their Google One benefits until the end of their existing billing cycle.
Google, however, warns that customers using more than their free storage allowance could eventually face interruptions to Gmail, Google Drive and Google Photos after their paid storage expires.
This is the second consecutive year in which Google has adjusted Google One pricing across several African markets.
A much wider price adjustment took effect in February 2025 across 18 countries.
Four African countries, Nigeria, Ghana, Egypt and Tanzania, were included in that round.
Nigeria and Egypt have therefore appeared in both Google’s 2025 and 2026 rounds of Google One price increases, while Algeria joins the latest adjustment.
The latest changes come as Google increasingly combines conventional cloud storage subscriptions with paid artificial intelligence services.
Its Google One offering in Nigeria now includes storage plans alongside AI subscriptions that provide access to additional Gemini capabilities and larger storage allocations.
For existing subscribers in the three affected African markets, however, the immediate change is simpler: maintaining the same Google One subscription will become more expensive as their next eligible billing dates arrive.
