MTN Group Appoints Adekunle Awobodu as New CFO for Digital and Fintech

Nigerian national, Adekunle Awobodu, has been appointed as MTN Group’s new Chief Financial Officer: Digital and Fintech.

A statement by MTN Group, described Awobodu as a seasoned ‘business and finance professional’. He previously served as the Chief Financial Officer for MTN Nigeria and MTN Irancell.

His appointment took effect on September 15, 2021. He is expected, among other things, to oversee the growth of MTN Group’s digital and fintech arms. He will do this in line with the company’s Ambition 2025, which basically entails driving digital solutions for Africa’s progress.

Do note that Adekunle Awobodu has over 20 years’ worth of professional experience, most of which have been spent within the MTN Group. During his previous management roles, he was said to have built processes and handled regulatory and compliance issues.

Between 2019 and 2020, he was a Chief Consultant at MTN Nigeria. The role saw him provide support to the company’s then CEO (Ferdi Moolman) and the CFO on matters bothering on finance, tax and accounting. He also led the company’s Oracle implementation.

Awobodu is a graduate of the University of Lagos where he obtained a bachelor’s degree in banking and finance. He had also obtained a master’s in finance from the University of Leicester as well as a number of other professional certifications. He is a certified general accountant.
