Benue Federal Medical Director Counts Eights Years Achievements

The outgoing Medical Director, (MD), Federal Medical Center, (FMC), Makurdi, Dr Peteru Inunduh, has stated that the center under his watch recorded unprecedented achievements in the bid to offer improved healthcare services to residents in Benue state.

Inunduh stated this in Makurdi while speaking to newsmen after he conducted them round some of the hospital projects he executed at both the permanent site and the main center of the hospital.

The Medical Director who is retiring after his second tenure ended, said within the last eight years under his watch, the center has trained over 400 staff in various areas of specialties.

Inunduh, flanked by top management staff of the center, led by the Head of Clinical Services, Dr Enye Agada, had conducted newsmen round some of the project he executed including renovated Accidents and Emergency unit, mega theatre, molecular laboratory male and female medical wards, nutrition block, incinerator, brand new infectious disease control center, Burns unit, laundry units, a ring road among others all at the Apir permanent site.

He also took journalists round the dialysis unit, pediatrics and Neonatal ward, amenity ward, endoscopic/laparoscopy among others at the Mani center located at Wadata area of Makurdi.

Speaking, Inunduh said “What you have seen is a product of our policy and the vision we came in with in 2015. It was anchored on two pillars; infrastructural development and human capital.”

The MD who expressed enthusiasm over his achievements said there has been tremendous infrastructural expansion in the hospital saying “what you have seen represents 60 percent of the development as there is other infrastructure in the rural areas that are not available here.

“The second pillar of our administration was human capital development. We realized that the most important asset of every organization is the human capital because if you have the best equipment in the world, but your human capital is not trained and retrained, they will be unable to maximize the use of that equipment.

While stating that his tenure prioritized service delivery, Inunduh said he also improved on the diagnostic capabilities of the center within the period under review.

He said “when he came in in 2015, there was no dialysis unit but that has been put in place.

“We had only one theater to operate and now have a four suit theater department site, we now have an infectious disease center also called the isolation unit, among others. So I think in the area of service delivery, the center has done well under my watch.”

He appreciated the staff of the center for their support and cooperation throughout his tenure saying “As I retire, the friendship between me and many of you here will be stronger because I will have more time for myself.”
