The Police Command in Nasarawa State has arrested two members of a syndicate who specialised in trailing bank customers to dispossessed them of their money in isolated locations in the state.
Mr Bola Longe, Commissioner of Police (CP) in the state made the disclosure on Wednesday in Lafia while parading the two suspects alongside 40 others.
According to the CP, the Police Command in the state had deployed undercovers around all banks in the state due to series of complaints from members of the public.
CP Longe explained that members of the public complaint that suspected robbers lurked around commercial banks and trailed unsuspecting customers after withdrawing huge sum of money from the bank.
He said that the robbers most times accosted the unsuspecting customers in isolated areas and disposses them of their hard earned money.
“In some cases, these undesirable elements break windshield or used master keys to unlock people’s vehicles when they are parked, and cart away the money,” the Commissioner of Policy added.
Longe said the undercover operation paid off on June 1, 2021 when the two suspects were caught around Guarantee Trust Bank, Lafia when they trailed a customer and were about to Robb him of his money.
The Commissioner said the suspects have confessed to the crime and were helping in investigation to arrest other members of the syndicate.
He further said that the suspects told the Police that they usually operates in banks between Nasarawa State and Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Abuja.
He said one Toyota Corolla, Ash colour with registration number AGD166GU was recovered as exhibit from the suspects.
Commissioner Bola Longe said other 40 suspects were arrested for armed robbery, cultism, vandalism of railway tracks among others.
He said the suspects would soon be charge to court for prosecution as soon as investigations were concluded.
He also commended members of the public for their consistency in given the police information, support and corporation.
Longe said the support from the public is really helping them in achieving the goal of effective policing in the state.
CP Longe said the responsibility of safeguarding the state is responsibility of all, therefore, members of the public should not hesitate to inform the security agencies of suspicious moves or activities in their areas.
