MoneyCentral Reporter, Ex- Benue NUJ chairman Bags Journalist Of The Year Award

Kingdom Watch Newspaper, an interdenominational Christian tabloid has honoured the immediate past Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists ( NUJ) Benue council, Comrade George Kajo Martins with an award ‘Right Comrade & Journalist of the Year’ 2021.

Kajo is the Benue state reporter of MoneyCentral newspaper, one of the leading economy newspapers in Nigeria.

Presenting the award under the leadership of Apostle Mtswenem Tor David, the organizers said the honour was in recognition of the former chairman’s enormous contributions to journalism practice and the development of Benue state and Nigeria at large.

He noted that the awardee has earned respect for himself by driving the Benue state council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists to it peak while serving at various times as the Treasurer, Vice chairman and Acting chairman for two times.

The ceremony witnessed the conferment of various awards to other personalities including Engr Ben Akaaka as Man of the year 2021.

Accepting the award, Engr Ben Akaaka who is the PDP governorship aspirant in Benue state, said it is only the consideration of merit that would address shortcomings in leadership, saying he has avail himself for Benue people to choose as vessel for good governance in 2023.

Responding to the award, Comrade Kajo said he did not lobby for it and thanked the leadership of the Kingdom Watch Newspaper for finding him worthy of honour in 2021 edition.

According to him, apart from the 2013 NUJ merit award organized by the Benue state council of NUJ, this one is the most cherished in his life and promised to do more for the promotion of peace and merit in his life time.

“I do not know that a group under the leadership of Kingdom Watch Newspaper was following my reports and union leadership style. I will continue to do the needful as far as God permit a sound health status for me”.

Speaking at the occasion, the Caretaker Committee chairman of Benue state council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Comrade Stephen Ijoh, commended the organizers for identifying with one of them, noting that the awardee deserve it.

He described the awardee as an astute unionist who have served the council in various capacities and pledged to support the church when call upon to do so.
